Desmond Seward has been writing popular history for as long as I can remember and has always been a dependable read. His new book ‘The King over the Water: a complete history of the Jacobites’ will not break new ground, but for those whose focus is on England his account in this book, spanning Ireland, Scotland and England, will be an engaging read. It was also released in the first week of October.
